In 2009, Modjeski and Masters, Inc. assembled a multi-disciplinary team with the capability and capacity to perform scour analyses on 648 bridges throughout the state that were determined to be scour critical; Forte and Tablada, Inc. was included in this team and performed analyses on selected bridges statewide.
This project derived from multiple scour critical bridges throughout the country, prompting the FHWA issued Technical Advisory T5140.23, which required all State Departments of Transportation to evaluate existing bridges for potential failure due to scour or stream instability.
LA DOTD’s scope of work included determining a plan of action for scour critical bridges and a design of countermeasures with associated construction plans, if necessary.
