As a result of Hurricane Katrina’s floodwaters inundating the Filmore neighborhood in New Orleans many roadways were damaged and were in need of repair. The City divided the area into groups of streets and Forte and Tablada, Inc. (formerly PEC) developed a detailed project scope report for Groups A and B based on the results of FEMA’s damage survey report and their programming documents. Once the scoping was approved by FEMA representatives, the Dept. of Public Works authorized Forte and Tablada to proceed with the design. Forte and Tablada is responsible for preliminary and final design and preparation of plans and specifications for repairs of over 56,000 linear feet of street reconstruction.
The project includes removal and replacement of existing asphalt and concrete pavement and drainage structures, as well as replacement of water mains and sewer main. Plan development tasks include horizontal and vertical geometry, subsurface drainage design, cross section development and earthwork computations. The project is ADA compliant and includes pedestrian walkways.
