Florida Boulevard – Segment 2 Corridor Enhancement (N. 22nd Street to Airline Highway)
As part of the East Baton Rouge Parish MOVEBR program, Forte and Tablada served as prime consultant for the survey and design of the Florida Boulevard Segment 2 Corridor Enhancement Project, a roughly four-mile urban corridor extending from N. 22nd Street to Airline Highway (US 61) in Baton Rouge. F&T partnered with three subconsultant firms alongside MOVEBR, the East Baton Rouge City-Parish, LADOTD, FHWA, and community stakeholders to deliver the design on a compressed schedule of about 20 months, meeting the federal authorization deadline tied to the project’s INFRA Grant. The ±$50M project was federally authorized in September 2025.
F&T’s topographic survey covered approximately 4.5 miles of the urban corridor using a terrestrial mobile mapping system and terrestrial scanning technology, collected while driving at the posted speed limit to minimize disruption to traffic. The design scope focuses on improving mobility and safety for all corridor users — motorists, transit riders, bicyclists, and pedestrians of all ages. Improvements include reconstructed sidewalks, new side paths and a widened median for pedestrian refuge, pedestrian signals and crosswalks at intersections, ADA-compliant curb ramps, removal of the existing outside shoulder in favor of curb, a mid-block crossing near Baton Rouge Community College, drainage improvements between Kernan Street and N. Foster Drive, and milling and overlay with select pavement patching throughout the corridor.
Following a compressed federal review and bidding process, the project broke ground in April 2026 and moved into construction, with milling operations underway between 22nd Street and Peach Street by that May. The enhancements respond to long-documented safety concerns along the corridor and complement the adjoining Segment 1 improvements and the Bus Rapid Transit Improvement Project as part of the parish’s broader effort to improve mobility along Florida Boulevard.
